Abohar, February 21

Aam Aadmi Party activist Raghubir Singh Bhakar agreed to end fast on 10th day yesterday after his medical examination indicated that his sugar level was receding to an alarming level.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Poonam Singh and SP Vinod Chaudhary reached Nehru Park to monitor the situation on Wednesday night.

District Congress ex-president Vimal Thatai, Nar Sewa Narayan Sewa president Raju Charaya and various mediapersons persuaded Bhakar to end fast as Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had recently approved Rs 2.20 crore grant to state-owned gaushalas for shelter to more cows and bulls. They offered glass of juice to Bhakar to end the fast.

Senior AAP leader Sukhraj Singh said the stir was launched on November 25. AAP state vice -president Aman Arora and other leaders visited Abohar to express solidarity over the issue, but the administration expressed inability in tackling the problem citing lack of funds and refusal of village panchayats and NGOs to raise shelters for stray cattle. When Bhakar was being shifted to the Civil Hospital late at night, a stray bull hit a night watchman near Bhagat Singh Chowk. He too was shifted to the hospital.
