Faridkot, April 23

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on Tuesday declared 81 out of total 190 postgraduate (MD/MS) medical seats under all-India quota in three government medical colleges of Punjab as vacant.

After two rounds of counselling for admission on these 190 seats, the MCC reverted (surrendered) these 81 seats back to the state. After merging these vacant seats with those of the state quota, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, will start the second round of counselling on Wednesday.

While 26 of these vacant all-India seats are in Government Medical College, Patiala, 31 and 24 seats have been declared vacant at Amritsar and Faridkot government colleges, respectively. The seats fell vacant due to non-joining by allotted candidates after the conclusion of second round of all-India counselling.

Besides these 81 reverted seats, the second round of counselling will be conducted for 195 MD/MS and diploma seats lying vacant in seven medical colleges in the state.

Out of the total 378 PG seats in three government colleges of the state, MCC conducts counselling for 190 seats under all-India quota and the remaining 188 state quota seats are filled by the BFUHS.

Besides these, the Faridkot university conducts counselling for 271 MD/MS and diploma seats in four private medical colleges in the state.

The total number of vacant seats for second counselling in Government Medical Colleges at Patiala, Amritsar and Faridkot is 145. The number of such seats is 131 in four private medical colleges — Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College, Amritsar, DMC and CMC at Ludhiana and Adesh Medical College, Bathinda.

The second round of counselling will start on April 24 and conclude on April 26. Besides the MD/MS and diploma seats, this counselling will also fill 68 MDS (post graduation in dentistry) seats, said Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice Chancellor of the BFUHS.
