Four labourers suffered burn injuries on Thursday in a blast at an aluminium casting factory in the Gadaipur area here.

The police said a nitrogen cylinder exploded at 12 noon due to high pressure, resulting in injuries to workers. The injured were admitted to a private hospital.

The police also reached the spot. Of the four injured workers, two suffered 40 per cent and 30 per cent burns while the remaining two had less severe injuries.

Kartarpur DSP Digvijay Kapil, who is investigating the case, said the labourers were not able to record their statements as they were under medication and cannot speak as of now. "We will record their statements once they recover."

"We have visited the spot. It was an industrial accident and preliminary investigations have revealed that the blast occurred due to the high pressure in the cylinder. The actual reason could only be ascertained after thorough investigation. Someone with sound technically knowledge will also be roped in so that we are able to ascertain the real reason behind the blast," the DSP added.
