In a bizarre incident, irked over being removed from a Whatsapp group, three people allegedly assaulted the admin of the group.

Sunil Kumar, a car dealer, was thrashed by three people after they were removed from the Whatsapp group named ‘Car Dealer Association’.

Sunil was ostensibly beaten on Tuesday evening around 7 pm at his office in Patran allegedly for removing people from the group.

Following the incident, the Patiala police booked the three persons under Sections 451, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused have been identified as Pawan Kumar, Sujit Ram of Patran town and Joginder Singh of Shutrana block of the district.

According to the complainant, Sunil had removed few people from the Whatsapp group on Monday.

They were removed for ignoring the repeated requests for not sharing irrelevant information in the group.

Next day, the people who were removed, attacked him. He said, “They were posting religious and personal posts, and many other people of the group had objected to those. After repeated reminders, I had to remove them. Next day, I was thrashed by them in my office.”

The complainant further said that the Whatsapp group was only for sharing cars related information but they had posted religious posts which had hurt the sentiments of other group members who had different beliefs.

Meanwhile, the police said that they had registered the case against the accused.

SHO, Patran, said, “The case has been already registered against the accused but it is not a big issue. These things happen here in Patran.”
