3 killed, seven injured as SUVs collide in Amritsar

Three persons, including a woman, lost their lives and seven others sustained severe injuries in a road mishap near Jandiala on National Highway 1 here today. 

The incident occurred when the driver of an SUV coming from Jalandhar side lost control due to bursting of tyre. The vehicle jumped the road divider and hit another SUV going towards Jalandhar.

  The deceased have been identified as Naveen Malhotra, a resident of Delhi, and Ritesh Vicky. The deceased woman is yet to be identified. Naveen along with his family had come to Amritsar around two days ago. They were returning in their Mahindra Xylo (DL-8C-4833) when the mishap occurred.

Harpreet Singh of Guru Amardass Avenue, Chamkaur Singh of Chamiari village, Arjinder singh of Guru Amardass Avenue and Gurkiran Kaur of Batala are among the injured. They have been admitted to a private hospital here. Rajinder Singh, driver of Fortuner (CH-01-AA-1572), was also injured. Two others accompanying him are yet to be identified.

According to information, the Fortuner vehicle was coming from Chandigarh. When they reached near Coca Cola factory in Jandiala, the car’s tyre got burst and Rajinder lost control over the steering. It collided with the road divider and hit Mahindra Xylo coming from the opposite side.

SSP, Amritsar, Parampal Singh said the exact cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained. He said the injured were not in a position to give statements.
