The Amritsar city police yesterday nabbed three gangsters from Haryana at a checkpoint in the Kot Khalsa police station area here.

The police recovered a .32 bore pistol made in the USA, a magazine, seven live bullets and a dagger from their possession. They were identified as Mohit Singh, alias Shera, of Gohana, and Azad Singh and Ajay Punia of Hisar.

Harjit Singh Dhaliwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said as per the preliminary probe, Mohit had nine cases of murder, attempt to murder and dacoity registered against him. He said he was also involved in a gang war with the opposite Tarun gang on August 10. Despite injury in the incident, he had managed to escape.

Mohit was convicted in a case and sentenced to seven-year jail. Later, he was granted bail. Three cases of murder, four of attempt to murder, one of dacoity and one under the Arms Act have been registered against him.

“Investigations are on to ascertain if they had any links with Amritsar-based gangsters. We are trying to find out where they were staying,” he said.

They were produced in court today and brought on police remand for further interrogation.

A case under Sections 24, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against them.
