Jalandhar, August 3

The medical examination of two of the four arrested in the inter-state kidney racket revealed that they have just one kidney. The police said it had confirmed their suspicion that the duo had sold their kidneys at a Jalandhar hospital.

The accused have been identified as Junaid Ahmed Khan of Faridabad, Kuldeep Kumar of Surya Vihar, Faridabad, Saboor Ahmed Khan of Lucknow and Vardan Chandar Rao of Lucknow. The doctors found that Saboor and racket kingpin Junaid had only one kidney.

The accused revealed in the interrogation that they underwent a surgery at the National Kidney Hospital in Jalandhar and were paid a lot of money for their kidney.

Dr Rajesh Aggarwal’s wife Deepa Aggarwal has denied performing any illegal surgeries. Harminder, the helper at Sunder Lab (also owned by Deepa Agggarwal), is in police custody.

Amrik Singh Power, ADCP, said they were still checking the records seized from the hospital to probe illegal surgeries. Sources said the police still did not have enough evidence about the involvement of another hospital near Rama Mandi in the racket. J Elanchezhian, ADCP, Crime, said further investigation was on.

Meanwhile, the city police today formed three police teams that will conduct raids at Jammu and Kashmir, UP and Delhi to nab the recipients and the donors of kidneys.
