As many as 114 students of old batches of Banur-based Gian Sagar medical, dental and nursing colleges were not allotted any college by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) today.

The university has completed the shifting of 1,437 students of the last five batches after the closure of Gian Sagar colleges.

The 114 students, including 52 MBBS and 36 BDS students, who reached BFUHS here today for verification of their documents were not allotted any college as the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Punjab, first wants to get a nod from the Medical Council of India (MCI) and Dental Council of India (DCI) on the shifting of students of 2008 to 2011 batches.

The BFUHS authorities claimed that only five of these 114 students needed shifting to other colleges while the rest had to sit only in supplementary exam or complete one year of their internship.

“As these students have already attended the required number of lectures and tutorial classes, there is no need to shift them to any other college to attend classes,” said the university authorities.

As per the BFUHS authorities, 81 of these students have to just complete their one-year internship as they have completed their 4.5 years of curriculum and 21 have to appear in the final-year supplementary exam.

“Besides, seven MBBS students have submitted the proof of completing internship, there are only five students who need shifting,” said Dr Raj Bahadur, chairman of counselling committee to shift students.
