The family of a 12-year-old boy, who was reportedly abducted a week ago, staged a protest near the railway overbridge on the state highway here today. Accompanied by relatives and others, the family said the police had failed to trace the victim.

Arman Sandhu, son of Baljinder Singh, a financier, was taken away by an unidentified motorcyclist from outside his house last Thursday.

The protesters carried portraits of Arman, demanding swift action to find him out. Hundreds of people, including students and teachers who have to pass through the overbridge to reach colleges and schools, were stranded due to traffic disruption. The vehicular traffic was diverted through narrow lanes in Sunder Nagari.

After about a half and three hours, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Poonam Singh, Tehsildar Jaspal Singh Brar and DSP Rahul Bhardwaj managed to pacify the protesters, who lifted their dharna later.

Officials said a door-to-door search was today conducted for six hours in Nai Abadi, Azeemgarh, Uttam Vihar and Dhani Bishesharnath. CCTV cameras were scrutinised.

Round-the-clock efforts by a number of cops are being made. Municipal councillors have been approached for assistance in finding clue and a suitable cash reward has also been announced. The officials urged the protesters to cooperate instead of “diverting the attention of the government machinery by holding protest.”
