Jammu, February 17

In a bid to reach out the youth in remote and border areas of the Kashmir Valley, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Ministry of Home Affairs are undertaking a special recruitment drive in Kupwara.

Over 10 corporates from across India will visit Kupwara for a two-day recruitment drive on February 18 and 19.

Corporates from various sectors, including finance, tourism, human resource, construction, automation, information technology and IT enabled services will be scouting for fresh talent from the border district of Kupwara.

The drive is a part of the series of mega selection drive being conducted in the state.

Eight more placement drives are planned in the next two months for the students of Samba, Sopore, Baramulla, Kathua, Reasi and Doda.

Three drives have already been conducted in Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur, which have shown tremendous response from the students.

In these drives, nearly 2,400 students were selected and many studying in the final year academic session were selected for Corporate India.

The Special Industry Initiative or Udaan Scheme was conceived with an objective of providing exposure to the graduates and post-graduates of Jammu and Kashmir.

The scheme is based on the recommendations of the Rangarajan Committee for setting up a progressive programme for training the youth of the state by the corporates located in different parts of the country.

In January, 2013, under a special industry initiative, the NSDC and the Ministry of Home Affairs have been mandated to work with the corporate sector in bringing about a positive change in the employment in Jammu and Kashmir.

Till date, 63 corporates have partnered with the Udaan Scheme and have given a commitment to train nearly 74,000 youths from the state.

More than 6,000 candidates have joined the training. Of them, nearly 2,500 have been given jobs by leading corporates like Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance, CMC, Ligare, Tata Motors, Yes Bank, Canara Bank etc.
