A 19-year-old girl, who was upset over her mother’s illicit affair, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Rajasthan Feeder canal at Adhnian village on the Malout-Dabwali national highway here on Thursday. Though the victim, identified as Shivtaj Kaur, was immediately pulled out of the canal by some persons present there, but she could not be saved.
She left behind a suicide note, which blamed her mother and her paramour, maternal grandfather and grandmother for taking the extreme step.
The victim’s mother Kirandeep Kaur was married to Davinder Singh of Deonkhera village. The victim had two siblings. Kirandeep had left her husband’s house after he met with a road mishap and became physically challenged. Thereafter, she started living with someone in Bathinda.
Upset over it, Shivtaj and her siblings started living with their aunt (father’s sister) at Danewala village here.
Kirandeep had even filed a suit for compensation in the court, which had announced Rs 30,000 as maintenance for her.
The Lambi police have registered a case in this regard against Kirandeep, her paramour Gurmel Singh ‘Fauji’, maternal grandfather Tej Singh and maternal grandmother Sheer Kaur.
