PATNA: A celebratory firing on Wednesday killed a 21-year-old woman dancer who was performing during a marriage function in Saharsa district of Bihar.

A celebratory firing on Wednesday killed a 21-year-old woman dancer who was performing during a marriage function in Saharsa district of Bihar.

The dancer was identified as Aakriti Singh, a resident of Sasaram district of Bihar. She along with her team had come to perform during the marriage celebration at Viratpur village under Sonvarsha Raj police station of Saharsa district.

It was alleged that some people were found to be in inebriated state and were firing live rounds when the incident occurred.

Soon after the incident, the entire celebration turned gloomy and the area wore a deserted look.

Police reached the spot to probe the incident and it was underway. The body was sent for post-mortem at Saharsa Sadar hospital.

“A dancer, Aakriti Singh, was killed in celebratory firing at Viratpur village. We have started our investigation but it is yet to be ascertained how the incident occurred and who fired”, said Binod Chaudhary, SHO of Sonvarsha Raj police station.
