VS Ugrappa is Congress candidate for Lok Sabha bypoll in Bellary

VS Ugrappa is the Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha by-election to Bellary Scheduled Tribe segment.

The bypoll has been necessitated after sitting MP B Sriramulu of the BJP vacated the seat following his victory in the 2018 Assembly polls from Molkalmuru constituency in Chitradurga district.

The by-election will take place on November 3.

Bellary is a politically significant constituency from where past Congress president Sonia Gandhi had made her Lok Sabha debut defeating Sushma Swaraj of the BJP.

But in the 2004 Lok Sabha poll, the BJP wrested the seat back from the Congress and has retained it since.

Bellary is also the area of influence of Karnataka Congress heavyweight DS Shivakumar.
