Jaipur, February 12

Robert Vadra, Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s brother-in-law, and his mother Maureen today appeared before the Enforcement Directorate here in connection with a probe into an alleged land scam in Rajasthan’s Bikaner  district.

ED officers interrogated Vadra and his mother, who reported at the agency’s regional office in Kathputali Nagar area around 10.30 am. The questioning lasted till 6.30 pm, with a lunch break of one hour.

AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra dropped them off at the ED’s zonal office, taking time off from her four-day Uttar Pradesh trip in a show of solidarity with her husband.

Congress posters, carrying photographs of Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi, read “Kattar soch nahin, yuva josh”, while some posters, probably by the BJP, read: Congress bhagao, desh bachao”. On Facebook, Vadra accused the Modi government of being vindictive ahead of the LS poll.

This was Vadra’s first appearance before the ED in Jaipur in connection with charges of money laundering through land deals made by a company linked to him. Vadra was asked by the Rajasthan HC to cooperate with the agency. — OC
