Two get life term for Ajmer Dargah blast

A special NIA court today awarded life imprisonment to Devendra Gupta and Bhavesh Arvind Bhai Patel in the Ajmer Dargah blast case of 2007. Three persons were killed and 15 injured in the blast.

NIA Special Judge Dinesh Kumar Gupta pronounced the judgment in the presence of both convicts. Devendra and Bhavesh were also fined Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.

On March 8, the court had acquitted RSS leader Swami Aseemanand and six others, while convicting three persons. The third convict in the case, Sunil Joshi, has already died.

Devendra (41) of Ajmer and Bhavesh (39) of Bharooch in Gujarat were awarded life imprisonment under Section 16(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, read with Sections 120-B and 295-A of the IPC.

They were also found guilty and punished with imprisonment and fine under various other sections of the IPC and Section 18 of UAPA. All punishments would run simultaneously. The court ordered both convicts be sent to the Central Jail, Jaipur.
