A journalist from Tripura, Santanu Bhowmick, who was working for a local news channel, Dinrat, was killed at Mandai in West Tripura district while he was covering the agitation by the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT).

Four members of the IPFT have been arrested on suspicion. The police said Bhowmick had

gone to Mandai, some 40 km from Agartala, to

cover clashes between members of IPFT and Tripura Rajaer Upajati Ganamukti Parishad.

As the police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd, Bhowmick, who was caught in the melee, came under attack of the mob. He died on the spot. — TNS
