Three members of a family were gunned down at Jatpura village under Bishunpur police station of Garhwa district in Jharkhand on Frinday morning.

Some unidentified men of contractor Sanjeet Singh allegedly killed the three men--father and two sons. Later, angry locals beat an employee of the contractor to death.

The deceased were identified as Uday Yadav, 55, son Niranjan, 35,and son Bimlesh, 30, residents of Jatpura village.

The deceased employee of the contractor was identified as Satendra Singh. The bodies are yet to be sent for post-mortem as the locals were protesting against the killing.

Angry villagers refused to lift the bodies from the spot as they demanded the contractor’s arrest, cancellation of his gun licence and compensation to the family.

“Illegal mining of sand from the banks of the Banki river was being resented by local villagers for long, but the  administration did not pay heed, leading to the murders,” a villager said.
