SC dismisses PIL seeking to put off Budget

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation that asked to put off the annual Union Budget until after assembly elections due next month.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar dismissed the petition after petitioner advocate ML Sharma failed to point out that the Union Budget with influence electorate in five a going to polls. 

"These are state elections. What has the Union Budget got to do with it?" CJI Khehar asked. 

The Bench repeatedly asked Sharma to point out how it will affect state elections and the electorate, but remained unconvinced with the answers. 

"Give us one concrete example. How will it affect the electorate? Going by your logic no Budget can be presented," the Bench remarked while dismissing the petition. 

When Sharma had said it amounted to violating the model code of conduct, the bench said: "You can go to the Election Commission". 

As Sharma insisted that the court should decide the case, the top court dismissed the petition.
