New Delhi, December 5

News of Prime Minister Narendra Modi winning an online reader’s poll for TIME’s Person of the Year met with mixed response on Monday.

Congress leader Renuka Choudhary was derisive.

“Of course he (Mr Modi) is 'Man of the Year'; who else can tear up every citizen's pocket and throat with one stroke?” she said. “He is too busy to come to Parliament — busy deciding how much gold are married women and unmarried women are allowed to have.”

Union Minister Uma Bharati on the other hand called it “only the beginning”.

“Ye to bas shuruwat hai, PM toh man of the century bhi honge aage (this is only the beginning. The Prime Minister will also be the man of the century)” she said. — Agencies
