Rape: Warrant against former Union minister

A local court issued a bailable warrant against former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand, rejecting the Uttar Pradesh Government’s plea for withdrawing a rape case against him.

Hearing the application moved by the rape victim against the state government’s plea for withdrawing the case, Shahjahanpur Chief Judicial Magistrate Shikha Pradhan rejected it and also issued a bailable warrant of Rs 50,000 against the former Union Minister of State for Home charged of raping a disciple. The court asked him to appear before it in person on July 12.

The rape survivor is a former disciple of the Swami and also the manager of the Mumuksh ashram run by him. She had accused him of holding her hostage, repeatedly raping and assaulting her for years.
