Rajiv Gauba is new Cabinet Secretary, replaces PK Sinha

NEW DELHI: The central government on Wednesday appointed Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba as the next Cabinet Secretary.

The central government on Wednesday appointed Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba as the next Cabinet Secretary.

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet cleared the appointment of Gauba, who will replace PK Sinha.

An official statement from the central government said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi “approved the appointment of Gauba as Cabinet Secretary with a tenure of two years from August 30, 2019 or until further order, whichever is earlier”. 

A 1982-batch IAS officer from Jharkhand cadre, he will be the Officer on Special Duty at the secretariat until he joins.

Kerala Cadre IAS officer Ajay Kumar is the new Defence Secretary, and Himachal cadre’s BK Agarwal is the new Lokpal Secretary.

Karnataka cadre's Subhash Chandra is the new Secretary, Defence Production, replacing Ajay Kumar.
