The ruling BJP suffered a pre-poll setback in Rajasthan with its sitting Lok Sabha MP from Dausa Harish Chandra Meena joining the Congress on Wednesday.

“I am joining the Congress unconditionally,” Meena said, although insiders in the party say he would be fielded from Mohua Assembly segment in the state elections due on December 7.

Meena represents the Dausa MP segment which Congress Rajasthan chief Sachin Pilot has held in the past.
Pilot said it was an honour to welcome Meena into the Congress family.

A fortnight ago, Manvendra Singh, the son of former NDA minister Jaswant Singh, had joined the Congress.
The Congress is still firming up its state candidate list with pulls and pushes from the Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot factions in the state.

Gehlot, former Rajasthan CM, on Wednesday said all senior leaders, including him and Pilot, would contest elections in the state.

Later, Pilot also admitted that “on the instructions of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and the request of Gehlot ji I will be contesting elections”.

Pilot remained tightlipped as to from where he would contest from saying, “The news that I will be contesting should be enough for today, leave the rest for later.”
