New Delhi, February 21

A Congress supporter and social activist has claimed there is no record available with the Railways that shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi was selling tea on railway platforms or trains in his childhood.

Tehseen Poonawalla has made the claim on the basis of a reply given by the Railway Ministry to a query under the RTI Act.

Poonawalla, an entrepreneur, had filed an RTI application with the Railway Board to inquire about any record, registration number or official pass that may have been issued to Narendra Modi, allowing him to sell tea on any train or railway station.

The Railway Board in its reply has said that no such information is available in the TG III Branch of Tourism and Catering Directorate of the board.

Poonawalla said: “Make no mistake, in a democracy a common man rising to become PM is something all of us should be proud of, but if Mr Modi was selling tea at railway station or on trains, then the Railway Board will certainly have such information.”
