After meeting the Alwar gangrape victim and her family privately for over 30 minutes, Congress president Rahul Gandhi today said she would get ‘Nyay’ (justice) and the accused would be punished soon.

“I have come here not to do politics. This is an emotional cause. I was here to meet the victim and her family and whatever they told me was from the core of their heart. I assured them of action,” Gandhi said.

“The family has told me some personal matters, which I can’t disclose, but I can say for sure that serious action will be taken against those found responsible for the crime,” he said.

He said such crimes against “bachhi, mata aur behen” should not be tolerated. Gandhi was accompanied by CM Ashok Gehlot, Deputy CM Sachin Pilot and AICC general secretary Avinash Pandey.

On being asked if he would meet other rape victims too in Alwar district, he said: “That is not in my programme as I have to hold a rally in Bihar that I can’t delay right now.”

The CM said: “The police will file a challan (chargesheet) in this case in a court within seven days. I assure that a government job would be given to either the victim or a member of her family. Considering the rising crime rate in Alwar, we have decided to create one more post for the Superintendent of Police in the district.”

On April 26, six miscreants accosted the woman and her husband on the Thanagazi-Alwar bypass and took them to an isolated place, where they allegedly raped her in front of him.
