The CPM suspects TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to be her compromise with the BJP dispensation at the Centre to wriggle out of the Saradha chit fund scam in which several of her key leaders and aides are under CBI lens.

Sensing a mellow down by TMC against the BJP, which has emerged as a potent force in West Bengal politics, the CPM will intensify its campaign against the both in the state in view of the next year’s Assembly elections.

The party will hit the street with fresh ammunition and a new strategy after November when the festival season, especially Durga Puja, would be over.

CPM leaders made a reference to Banerjee’s meeting with Modi-Shah during a two-day meeting of party’s Polit Bureau, which concluded on Thursday.  During the meeting, leaders felt that the TMC would now soft-pedal on NRC issue. “The CPM has opportunity to revive itself in West Bengal before the Assembly elections on the issues of NRC, Article 370  and push for Hindi,” said a CPM leader.
