Exam fee hike for Classes 10, 12 applies across India: CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education issued a clarification on Monday that its recently notified hike in examination fees for Class 10 and Class 12 applied across India.

The board, which recently hiked its exam fees to Rs 1,200 for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students and Rs 1,500 for the general category for five subjects said that the increase was “pan-India and not especially for Delhi”.   

“It is clarified that the board has increased the Board exams fee pan India and not especially for Delhi, as misrepresented by some portions of the media. This increase is after a gap of 5 years. The Board had not increased the fee in the last five years,” the statement said. “The fee has been increased for all categories of students in all affiliated schools of CBSE in India and abroad by a resolution of the Governing body of the Board.”

Fees for the general category have been hiked from Rs. 750 (Rs 150 per subject) to Rs. 1500 (Rs. 300 per subject). Visually impaired students will be charged no fees.

“With this increase the Board fee is now comparable to the other central board, that is, NIOS,” the clarification said.
