Lucknow, March 26

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday punished Additional Chief Secretary, Secretariat Administration, Mahesh Kumar Gupta for contempt of court, sentencing him to custody till the court rose for the day and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000.

A single-judge Bench of Justice Vivek Chaudhary held Gupta responsible for irregularity in preparation of seniority list for promotion of Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari. The order stated that Gupta wilfully violated the order of the court dated July 10, 2018, and March 25, 2019.

While the Joint Secretariat Administration submitted an affidavit that the persons who have been promoted in violation of the order of the court have been restored to their original positions, the court noted that benefits that were to accrue under the court’s order to the petitioners and other persons have been passed but not brought on record. — TNS
