Lucknow, January 7

A US-based alumna of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has donated a gold and pearl necklace for an online auction by her alma mater.

Dr Afshan Hashmi, who completed her PhD from the university in 1991, was inspired by a former university student who gifted gold bangles, which fetched Rs 7.5 lakh at the auction last year. Hashmi had received the necklace as a gift from her in-laws.

AMU Vice Chancellor Lt Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said last year, the highest bidder donated the bangles back to the university. It is now in the university museum.

This year, the university has set the reserved price for the necklace at Rs 5 lakh. The V-C said interested people could bid for the necklace online at the university website.
