Internet users across Maharashtra are reporting slow speeds after several major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) came under a sustained Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack over the past few days, the police said.

Acting on a complaint from several small ISPs, the cyber-crime cell of the Mumbai police registered an FIR against unknown persons. The police said ISPs had come under attack from multiple computers with speeds of as much as 200 GB/second. As a result of the attack, net connectivity has slowed down, complaints with the police said.

Brijesh Singh, IGP, (Cyber Crime), said the DDOS attack had been on since July 18 onwards. “We are still working to determine the sources of the attack. The cyber-attackers have been trying to shut down the ports of ISPs by these DDOS,” he said. Bloggers said ISPs were being targeted and connectivity in Mumbai, Thane and Pune had been affected.
