Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane has been posted as the new Eastern Army commander. He will take over on October  1.

He is presently posted as the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) based in Shimla.

Lt Gen Naravane, who is from the Sikh Light Infantry, will be the senior most Army commander when the turn comes to select the next Army chief in December 2019.

If the principle of seniority is the benchmark he could be the next chief, unless the government of the day decides to overlook seniority.

He will replace Lt Gen Abhay Krishna who has been transferred to head the Army’s Central command.

The post at Central command is falling vacant as Lt Gen BS Negi is superannating.
