Amid growing incidents of lynching and mob violence in different parts of the country, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind chief Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari has urged the Muslim youth to build bridges with fellow countrymen and spurn instigation.

Maulana Umari said the situation in the country had deteriorated with a series of attacks on minorities, Dalits and other marginalised sections in the name of “gau raksha” and other excuses. “The spate in mob-lynching rages persistently in trains, buses and public places,” he said.

“Muslim youth should not get depressed and lose heart. They should avoid being instigated and avoid giving any emotional reactions. The communal elements want Muslims to either get disheartened or lose hope or become isolated from the mainstream,” Maulana said in his appeal to the Muslim community, particularly youth.

“We should not use the language of fear and despondency, nor use the language of confrontation and communalism. Our emotional reaction and an unbalanced narrative will only help the divisive agenda of the communal forces. We should try to prevent the situation from escalating into communal and religious strife.”

As per the teachings of Islam, in such a situation one must run a vigorous campaign to establish communication, contact and connection with non-Muslim brothers and sisters, he said.

“We should remove their misunderstandings and apprise them of the true teachings of Islam. We should raise our voice against oppression and injustice hand in hand with our non-Muslim brothers and sisters,” he said.
