Addressing a press conference here, Roy said that after the Durga puja he would also resign from the Rajya Sabha and quit the primary membership of the TMC.

On stepping down from the party’s working committee, Roy said that immediately after the press conference, he would send a mail to the party’s secretary general informing him of his decision.

Roy, who is rumoured to be joining the BJP, was earlier removed from the TMC vice-president’s post by party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. At her instance, Roy was also dropped from various parliamentary committees where he represented the TMC.

Roy, whose stint in the Rajya Sabha would end in the middle of next year, told reporters that after the Durga puja, he would give an elaborate explanation about the reasons for his quitting the TMC.

Roy also refused to answer questions about the possibility of his joining the BJP.
