Michel’s CBI custody extended by four days

New Delhi, December 15

A Delhi court today extended by four days the CBI custody of Christian Michel, alleged middleman charge-sheeted and arrested in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam.

He was extradited from Dubai on December 4 and produced before the CBI court on December 5. Special Judge Arvind Kumar had remanded him in five-day CBI custody. On December 10, his police custody was extended by five days. The probe agency told the judge that Michel, 57, needed to be confronted with various documents in the case and had sought further custody of for five days.

Michel is among the three alleged middlemen — Guido Haschke and Carlo Gerosa — being probed in the case by the ED and the CBI. Both agencies notified an Interpol red corner notice against him after the court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. The CBI has alleged there was an estimated loss of euro 398.21 million to the exchequer in the deal that was signed in 2010 for the supply of VVIP helicopters worth euro 556.262 million.  — TNS
