Meira Kumar files her nomination for presidential election

NEW DELHI: Opposition’s presidential election candidate Meira Kumar, accompanied by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Wednesday filed her nomination papers.

Opposition’s presidential election candidate Meira Kumar, accompanied by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Wednesday filed her nomination papers.

She is challenging the ruling BJP party candidate Ram Nath Kovind in the July 17 elections. She filed her papers at 11.30 am.

CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI D Raja, Naresh Aggarwal of SP, BSP’s Satish Mishra, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Chief Ministers Amarinder Singh, Virbhadra Singh, V Narayanasamy, Siddharamaiah joined the occasion demonstrating its strength.

Today is the last date for filing of the nomination to the office of the President of India.

Polling will be held on July 17 in Parliament and all the state legislatures and the assemblies of Delhi and Puducherry and the votes will be counted on July 20.

President Pranab Mukherjee’s five year tenure ends on July 24.
