New Delhi, December 22

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been conferred with the 2nd Asia Cosmopolitan Award by Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), an economic think tank, at a ceremony in Nara, Japan.

Dr Singh received the award for his contribution in transforming the Indian economy and its integration with the broader East Asian economy throughout his tenure, the think tank said in a release.

In his video message, Dr Singh said he received the prestigious award with great gratitude and humility. “I believe that in the coming years, East Asia will grow to its full potential, and become truly an inclusive and a cosmopolitan society. I hope that this region will continue to nurture this spirit of growth and integration both within the region and with other parts of the world.”

ERIA is an international organisation founded in 2008 and based in Jakarta.
