Imphal, December 8

Long wait in the queue for old-age pension claimed the life of a 70-year-old man in Imphal.

Ibohanbi Akoijam died after fainting in the queue at the head post office on December 5.

Officials at the post office said they gave the man first aid. Since there was no sign of improvement he was shifted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Imphal.

He died on Wednesday. The banks in Imphal city and other district headquarters were issuing tokens to account-holders. Only those who had obtained the tokens are allowed inside the bank premises.

Meanwhile, most ATMs are cash-strapped and banks restrict the number of account-holders who are allowed inside the premises for transactions.

Several account-holders, including elderly women, complain of absence of basic facilities like toilet, drinking water at banks and ATM booths. IANS
