Pune, April 30

A Marathi actor was arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 15 lakh from another actor in return for withdrawing a molestation case against the latter, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, complainant Subhash Yadav, an aspiring actor, had worked in a film with the arrested accused and the latter had filed a sexual harassment case against him after the film got released.

“Another accused Ram Jagdale, on the pretext of working out a settlement between the two, called Yadav to his office in September last year. The arrested actor, an Anti-Terrorism Squad sub inspector Amol Tekale and one of Yadav’s relative was present,” he said.

“They made Yadav record a video in which he apologised for the act. The arrested woman demanded Rs 15 lakh in return for not making the recording viral,” he said.

Tekale also took Rs 1 lakh from Yadav, the official said.

However, another woman actor allegedly leaked the recording following which Yadav approached Sahakarnagar police station on April 10 and filed a complaint of extortion against the two women actors, ATS PSI Tekale and Jagdale.

“While the actor who worked with Yadav was arrested on Friday, Jagdale was held earlier. Efforts are on to nab the woman actor who leaked the recording and PSI Tekale,” he added. — PTI
