A leopard today found its way into a swank school in the country’s IT hub and attacked people, injuring at least six. Among the injured, two got badly mauled by the terrified feline. “One of the two having serious injuries is a forest department driver. The other one is from an NGO. Both have been hospitalised,” Dipika Bajpai, DFO, said.

The leopard had attacked the men near the school’s (Vibgyor High School) swimming pool where it had landed by walking over the school’s boundary wall. After the commotion, the frightened cat fled inside the school building.

The feline was first spotted by CCTV cameras inside Vibgyor School at around 4:13 am. The school was shut today as it was Sunday.

“We found the cat hiding in the bathroom. There it was shot with a tranquilliser dart and captured after it took effect. We are now taking him to the Bannerghatta Park. There the leopard will be examined and we shall decide whether it should be set free in the forest”, Kariappa, CCF, told the TNS.

The chase to capture the leopard lasted for eight hours. “More than 25 people were deployed for capturing it,” Bajpai said.

The school is on the outskirts of Bengaluru, with woody growths in the neighbourhood.
