Patna/Ranchi, May 10

RJD chief Lalu Prasad arrived in Patna on Thursday after being granted three-day parole to attend his son’s wedding scheduled for Saturday.

Prasad, 69, who has been convicted in four fodder scam cases by a special CBI court in Ranchi since December last year, had sought five-day parole, but was granted for three days. “Lalu Prasad has been released on three-day parole (May 11-13) to attend his son’s wedding,” said Harsh Mangla, Inspector General (jail), Jharkhand. Lalu, along with his confidant Bhola Yadav and a team of doctors, reached Patna on Thursday evening.

“Lalu was said to be medically fit to attend the wedding. We had moved an application for five-day parole of his behalf, but only three days were granted, said Bhola Yadav. He said Lalu might return to Ranchi by May 14.

‘Slogans of Lalu Yadav Zindabad’ resonated in Lalu’s residence as soon as the supporters learned that the RJD chief has been granted parole.

Lalu’s elder son and former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav’s marriage with Aishwarya Rai, daughter of RJD MLA Chandrika Rai, is scheduled for May 12 in Patna. — OC
