Ram Nath Kovind files nomination papers for President

NEW DELHI: BJP-led NDA on Friday filed nomination papers for Ram Nath Kovind as its candidate for the Presidential election. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and leaders of constituents of NDA accompanied Kovind.

BJP-led NDA on Friday filed nomination papers for Ram Nath Kovind as its candidate for the Presidential election.     

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and leaders of constituents of NDA accompanied Kovind.

Secretary General Anoop Mishra, Returning Officer for the July 17 polls, received the sets of nominations papers.

Addressing the media after filing his papers, Kovind said the President’s post is the most respected in our democracy.

“It is our responsibility to keep the dignity of the office which is supreme. Since I became a Governor I kept away from politics. I believe the office of President should be above politics.                       

“Will strive to keep the dignity of the office,” he said.              

Leaders present at the nomination included BJP’s LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, Akali Dal patron Prakash Singh Badal, Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath, N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao.
