“On January 30, ten days before Delhi went to polls, the party received documents which showed that the degree was forged. Prashant Bhusha had alerted the party through its legal cell. On February 4, the case was taken to court. This was all before Delhi assembly polls. This means that the party had proof that the degree was forged even before Jitender Tomar was made Law Minister. Yet, in June, the party claims they had no inkling that the degree was forged and that they were kept in the dark,” Yadav said.

The Congress and the BJP attacked the AAP over the statement.

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said “Arvind Kejriwal knew the degree was forget, ye he did nothing about it, He shielded Tomar. Then he put up a straight face and claimed he was misled. The AAP needs to introspect instead of attacking the BJP on allegations that are unfounded.” He was referring to Kejriwal’s attack on the BJP over the controversy involving Lalit Modi and two of BJP’s most prominent leaders — External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

The Congress said Kejriwal must explain himself.

“If he knew about the forged degrees, he should explain why he did not immediately initiate action. In fact, it is on record that Kejriwal claimed he had investigated the issue and found nothing. He should explain when he did so,” said Congress leader PL Punia. Former Law Minister, who was forced to resign last month after he was arrested for forging his degrees, is currently lodged in Tihar jail. ANI
