New Delhi, March 19

Displaying “pragmatic politics”, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently faced with over 30 criminal defamation cases in various courts of the country, has expressed regret to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Congress leader Kapil Sibal’s son Amit Sibal over his “defamatory” statements against them.

The apologies follow the one tendered to Akali leader Bikram Majithia.

Kejriwal wrote to Gadkari that his statements were “unfounded”, while seeking a closure of the court proceedings against him. A joint application was moved by both today in a Delhi court for the closure of the suit filed by Gadkari. Later in the day, Sibal and AAP leaders moved a similar application.

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia defended the apologies, saying they do not intend to indulge in an unnecessary “ego fight” and spend time meant for serving people in legal battles.

Kejriwal’s move reflects his strategy to conserve energy and resources ahead of polls.
