Kanhaiya faces attempt to murder charge in Bihar’s Begusarai

Former JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar on Wednesday landed in trouble after a case of attempt to murder was lodged against him in Begusarai district of Bihar by Bajrang Dal.

Bajrang Dal district coordinator Shubham Bhardwaj lodged the FIR against Kanhaiya at Begusarai’s Bhagwanpur police station alleging that their activist Sanu was injured by Kanhaiya’s supporters on Tuesday evening.

“A case under Section 307 of the IPC was registered at Bhagwanpur police station by Bhardwaj,” said SHO Dipak Kumar.

A clash between supporters of Kanhaiya and Bajrang Dal broke out at Dahia area. Bajrang Dal activists allegedly kicked the protesting Kanhaiya supporters that led to a clash leaving half-a-dozen people injured. Vehicles of Kanhaiya’s carcade were also damaged in the clash.

“The activists of Bajrang Dal and Yuva Morcha of the BJP attacked Kanhaiya’s convoy returning from a political campaign from Mansurchak. Kanhaiya was on a political campaign to convince the people to gather in Patna to attend the party’s proposed rally on October 25,” said a CPI leader condemning the incident.

Kanhaiya is set to contest from Begusarai constituency as a candidate of the CPI in the 2019 parliamentary election. He is already facing a charge of misbehaving and manhandling a doctor of the Patna AIIMS.
