New Delhi, December 13

Congress veteran Kamal Nath on Thursday faced the first hurdle on the road to Madhya Pradesh Chief Ministership with Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee leader and MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa questioning the move taking up the alleged involvement of Nath in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Sirsa attacked the Congress leadership for considering Nath for the top job asking if this was the party’s way of atoning for its “sins”.

The Akali Dal has been questioning Nath’s appointment in key Congress roles in the past too and Nath had to be removed as AICC general secretary in charge of Punjab because of his alleged involvement in the anti-Sikh riots.

It remains to be seen if the ghost of the riots comes back to haunt Nath again.

All eyes are on Congress president Rahul Gandhi who is currently meeting AICC observers for selection of CMs in the states the party has won. Gandhi will also meet the CM hopefuls in all states—Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan and Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia in MP.
