Lucknow, April 25

After spending more than seven months behind bars, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College paediatrician and NHRM nodal officer Dr Kafeel Khan.

He had been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) on September 2 for criminal neglect causing death of more than 10 children due to shortage of oxygen on August 10, 2017.

Counsels for Dr Khan, Nazrul Islam Jafri and Sadaful Islam Jafri, had argued that as the state government has claimed that no infant had died due to shortage of oxygen, there was no case for keeping Dr Khan behind bars on that charge. The single Bench oobserved that as the chargesheet had already been filed in the case, there was no need for keeping him in custody.  — TNS
