Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea, who is accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, on Thursday filed a police complaint against officials at the Byculla Women’s Jail for assaulting her.

Mukerjea filed the complaint after the report of the medical examination conducted on her revealed that she was assaulted with blunt objects and that she had suffered some injuries.

The CBI court had ordered her to undergo a medical examination after her lawyers complained of assault in custody.

In her complaint Mukerjea said she was injured after the officials at the Byculla Women’s Jail conducted a lathi-charge on the inmates after they had protested the death of a prisoner who died after alleged torture.

Six police officials, including jail superintendent Manisha Pokharkar, have been suspended in connection with the custodial death of the inmate.

Meanwhile, the state women’s commission ordered police officials to appear before it in connection with the death of Manju Shetye last week.

Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Swati Sathe appeared before the women's commission, Vijaya Rahatkar, at its office today.

The prison department will submit a report in a sealed cover to the commission on the death of Shetye in custody and the action taken against the jail staff accused of assaulting her.

Rahatkar later told reporters that a three-member special investigation team will be appointed to probe the matter.

“We will constitute the SIT which will have a retired judge, a retired police officer and woman member of an NGO,” she said.
