New Delhi, November 9

India and European Union (EU) underscored the necessity of having a Bilateral Trade and Investment Agreement and agreed to continue working towards it, with the EU side expressing interest for a ministerial dialogue on economic and trade matters.

“The meeting covered the entire spectrum of the India-EU relationship with a view of identifying areas to strengthen the cooperation and also identify possible deliverables at the next round of India-EU summit planned to be held in early 2020,” a Ministry of External Affairs release said today.

Both sides also expressed commitment to increase the engagement, including in areas of digital economy, climate change, and cooperation at the multilateral forums.

On its part, the EU mission in India said both sides welcomed the current momentum in EU-India relations, based on converging priorities such as climate change, digital economy, the strong belief in multilateralism and the rules based international order.

The EU confirmed its support to the sustainable modernisation of India. The partnership review meeting was held here on Friday.
