India aims to cut crude import

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target for reducing the volume of imported crude oil by 10% to 67% by 2022 when the country will celebrate its 75th anniversary of Independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target for reducing the volume of imported crude oil by 10% to 67% by 2022 when the country will celebrate its 75th anniversary of Independence.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan who was on his maiden stock-taking visit to the oil fields and oil installations in Assam, on Friday said India currently had to import 77 % of its total crude oil requirement and the Prime Minister desired that the import volume be reduce to 67 % by the year 2022.

“A high-level committee has been set up under Petroleum Secretary to bring out a vision document in three months for boosting production in petroleum and natural gas in Assam,” Pradhan said. — TNS
