The Ramon Magsaysay Award has brought good tidings for Indian Forest officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi who will receive the award in the capacity as Haryana's Conservator of Forests. The state government has cleared his promotion.

He has fought a long battle for this, both within and outside the government. His 28 batch mates of the 2002 cadre had been promoted, but his promotion was put on hold. So much so, that his name did not figure in the Departmental Promotion Committee held in June and January.

In the past five months, Chaturvedi has knocked on the doors of the CAT four times. At present he is working as Deputy Secretary in AIIMS, Delhi.

Talking to TNS, he said his name has now been cleared by the DPC. "I hope to get my promotion letter this week. I have been given the prestigious award for my duties as a public servant. I have done what every bureaucrat will do and in accordance with the sentiments of Sardar Patel," he said.

He said he had been targeted for exposing the irregularities while performing my duties as the Chief Vigilance Officer of AIIMS. For this tough stance, he was transferred 12 times in five years.
