In a bid to check air pollution caused by vehicles running on petrol and diesel, the government is trying to promote electric vehicles by amending the Model Building Bylaws, 2016, and Urban Regional Development Plans Formulation and Implementation Guidelines, 2014, making provisions for establishing electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

This is being done to facilitate availability of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The government has desired that 25 per cent of the total vehicles on roads should be EVs by 2030, sources said. The Ministry of Power has issued guidelines to all state governments and UTs for charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, they added. — TNS
